Singing, especially singing together as a chorus, was difficult in the midst of a pandemic. Rehearsals were like a steeplechase, requiring precautions such as corona testing, masks, disinfection, ventilation, and if possible, vaccination of boys over the age of 12. All of this had to be done together. The Vienna Boys Choir therefore chose 19 songs that express the special feelings that have been kept away from solidarity. All of these songs come from different cultures and have been well-loved and sung all over the world. These songs have great stories to tell. One song was born in the 1850s in the U.S. and is now a famous folk song in Japan and China, with different titles and lyrics. The songs are all very well-known folk songs," said Gerard Wirth, the choir's artistic director and chairman. Seventeen songs have been added to their new repertoire, including Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again," "La Paloma," and "Wellerman," which became a pandemic hymn. Universal Music/IMS
