Kaitaro Abe has released the soundtrack to a drama directed and written by Takashi Minamoto as a digital download titled *Musical Portrait of Takashi Minamoto*. This vinyl album is a compilation featuring carefully selected piano pieces from the entire soundtrack. Composed and performed entirely by Abe himself, these piano solos highlight melodies that resonate with delicate human dynamics and beautiful scenes, while his unique sequences of tones create a world of freedom. “If it were truly possible to convey our thoughts to one another through sound alone—the piano is one of the few vestiges of the wild remaining for people today.” (From the liner notes by Kaitaro Abe) Kaitaro Abe’s soundtrack series, which featured monthly digital releases for nine consecutive months, included music from numerous dramas directed by Takashi Minamoto, such as *Grace’s Resume* (2023), winner of the 42nd Kuniko Mukoda Award, and *The Secret Pleasures of Kyoto People: Rouge—Succession—* (2026), which began airing this past January. *Musical Portrait of Takashi Minamoto*. This vinyl release is a definitive collection drawn from the soundtrack series—created in response to the many requests for recorded versions that poured in with each drama broadcast—featuring carefully selected piano solo pieces plus two previously unreleased tracks. Abe himself not only composed but also performed all the music. A delicate tapestry of human relationships, where the individuality of each character intertwines—a hallmark of Minamoto’s works. The piano solos further highlight the intricate characterizations and melodies that resonate with the visual beauty of the landscapes serving as the story’s backdrop. The cover artwork by painter Akane Nakajima adds color to this free-spirited world where sounds with a unique character flow organically together. The album includes a bonus insert featuring Abe’s handwritten sheet music for the track “Tears,” printed using letterpress.
