Hayden Thorpe, former frontman of UK indie band Wild Beasts, releases a stunning new album inspired by a nuclear bomb research facility! Hayden Thorpe, the former frontman of the Mercury Prize-nominated and UK Top 10 selling Wild Beasts, is releasing his latest album "Ness" on Domino. The album is inspired by Orford Ness, where the British Ministry of Defense once conducted weapons development during both World Wars and the Cold War, and the music is based on the book of the same title by best-selling author Robert Macfarlane (illustrated by Stanley Donwood). Thorpe re-edited the text and poems from the book and gave them new life as 13 songs. The preceding single "They," which begins with the spoken word, was written after Thorpe's first visit to Orford Ness with Macfarlane, where they had lunch "by the bomb craters and destroyed buildings.Elsewhere, from the sensual, libido-filled "She" to the eerie requiem "Merman," the contrasts of Orford Ness, a landscape shrouded in mystery and paradox, can be heard in the form of folk, experimental orchestra, and elegant pop.
