The Butts Band is a mixed British-American band consisting of former DOORS drummer JOHN DENSMORE and guitarist ROBBY KRIEGER. They auditioned KEVIN COYNE of SIREN, HOWARD WERTH of AUDIENCE, and JESS RODEN of BRONCO. As a result, JESS RODEN was selected and formed with PHIL CHEN, a skilled bassist in the London session world, and ROY DAVIES, a keyboardist who also participated in GONZALEZ, to form a super band with high expectations in the British and American rock world. After the first album, they left London and reorganized the band except for JOHN DENSMORE and ROBBY KRIEGER, and released the second album again with American musicians.The album opens with BOB MARLEY's "GET UP STAND UP" with its fat drum break, followed by the soul number "CORNER OF MY MIND" with its mellow electric piano, "CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE", which was later used by JURASSIC 5 on their classic "QUALITY CONTROL". CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE," the melancholy "EVERYBODY'S FOOL," and the folky free-soulin' "LIVIN' AND DYIN'," etc., all of which are powerful performances with tight rhythms, catchy grooves and dynamic, progressive sounds. This is a quality funky rock album filled with tight rhythms, catchy grooves, dynamic and progressive sounds, and strong performances. Despite its achievements as a sampling source in the hip-hop~breakbeats era and beyond, the album sold as poorly as the debut, and the group disbanded soon after its release.
