Janacek's masterpiece "Jenufa" to be performed at the Berlin State Opera in February 2021, conducted by Rattle, with Camilla Nylund giving a brilliant performance as Jenufa, who is swept away by love and despair! Janacek's third opera "Jenufa" is set in his native Moravia. It depicts universal human relationships in a closed, cold village in Moravia, and is based on Gabriela Prysover's play "Her Adoptive Daughter". The opera uses the original prose-style dialogue and is filled with beautiful melodies, and has a rich folkloric style from the Czech Republic and Moravia. The story is that Jenůfa, the most beautiful woman in the village, conceives a child by her cousin Števa while still unmarried and gives birth in secret. Meanwhile, Shuteva's half-brother Ratsa is in love with Yenoufa. Jenoufa's stepmother Kostelnicka begs Shteva to marry Jenoufa, but Shteva refuses, and in order to force her to marry Latsa, Kostelnicka kills the baby. Kostelnicka lies to Jenůfa that she died of illness, but on the day of Jenůfa and Latsa's wedding, the baby is found dead. All the truth is revealed, and Yenoufa and Latsa vow to overcome their hardships, love each other, and live together. The film realistically depicts love, despair, jealousy, and various other human emotions that are still relevant today.This performance was staged at the Berlin State Opera in February 2021, directed by Italian-born Damiano Micieletto and conducted by Simon Rattle. The performance, which took place at the Corona Disaster, was also streamed live. The role of Yenoufa is played by Camilla Nylund. Her voice conveys the purity of a village girl and her strength to overcome difficulties. And Evelyn Herlizius as Kostelnicka. As a regular singer at Bayreuth, she delivers a powerful performance. Radislaw Elgur sings as Steva, the man who gets Jenoufa pregnant and escapes. Stuart Skelton from Australia plays Ratsa, who remains in love with Yenoufa to the end. The four members of the main cast demonstrate their abilities in their singing, which makes for a very enjoyable performance.
