Nidaros Cathedral Girls Choir celebrates its 25th anniversary with a disc of clear voices echoing through the cathedral! In 1992, the Nidaros Cathedral Girls Choir was founded in the cathedral in Trondheim, the city where St. Olav laid the foundations. At the heart of the mission of our girls' choir is the development of the art of living in a fragile phase of life that tests our abilities. Learning to belong, learning to feel seen and included, learning to build friendships". The choir has commissioned works from composers including Nurheim, Aura Yairo, Bob Chilcott, and Kim Andre Arnesen. The work chosen to celebrate its 25th anniversary is Requiem. Andru Smith (1970-), a British-born organist and composer active in Norway, was commissioned to compose the work, which features a girl's chorus with wind improvisation and organ. The album "Light" consists of two works, this "Requiem" and its "echo" Kreiberg.Andru Smith's "Requiem" is based on Catholic liturgical texts, using the "Children" section of the Bible as a text and material inspired by Gregorian chant. The Requiem includes "Adoration," "Prayer," and "Kyrie" for organ solo; "She Weeps," a song about Mary mourning the death of her son Jesus; "Hymn to the Young Martyrs," a song by Rachel for the children of Ramah who were killed by the order of King Herod; "The Lord is a Shepherd," "Sanctus," and "In Heaven. Jazz player and composer Trygve Syme (1971-), known for his recordings for the ECM label, improvises on saxophone, and jazz musician Ståle Stallocken (1969-) plays the organ. (1/2) King International
