He is a popular pianist who continues the jazz piano tradition that dates back to Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and Bill Evans, and is unrivaled by any other European jazz pianist. Yamandu Costa, who made his debut in 2001, is a prodigious guitarist from Brazil who wields a seven-string gut guitar. A six-time Latin Grammy nominee and one-time winner, he performs in all settings, from solo to with symphony orchestras. His current album, Inner Spirits, documents the astonishing harmony between the two voices, and the constant process of switching roles from lead to secondary voice is always magically organic.It may seem an unlikely combination, but there is no separation in the natural communication between these two players from the north and the south, and their affinity for each other brings an addictive quality to the overall style of this work.
