Launched in December 2012, borrowing the title of an encyclical by John Paul II, the St. Ephrem Male Chorus concert series "Orientale Lumen" has grown into one of Budapest's most popular church music events, receiving high praise from professionals and choral lovers alike. The album is based on eight concerts from the 2013 and 2014 seasons and features recorded prayers from countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine. In addition to ancient chants, the album includes works by Russian composers such as Bortniansky, Tchaikovsky, Grechaninov, and Rachmaninoff, and the performances include guest participation by a variety of soloists and choirs.
