Eddie C. Campbell is a singer/guitarist who is rightfully part of the "Chicago West Side School," following in the footsteps of Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, and others. At the tender age of 12, he played with Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Little Johnny Taylor, Jimmy Reed, Coco Taylor, Magic Sam, and many others, and was greatly influenced by Magic Sam, who was his neighbor. In 1977, Campbell released his debut album on critic/producer Steve Wisner's Mr. Blues label, which was a late bloomer.Backed by the strong sound of the skilled members, including Carrie Bell (hca), Lafayette Leake (p), Bob Stroger (b), and Clifton James (ds), the band features smoky, lively songs and creative, revved-up guitar playing on a purple Jazzmaster. The album is one of Campbell's best-known works. This is Campbell's masterpiece and a hidden gem of Chicago blues from this era, and the rare "King of the Jungle" original vinyl artwork, which is being reissued for the first time on LP, is a masterpiece of impact.
