When the door of darkness opens once again... SUNN O)))), a legendary band derived from others, makes a shocking comeback. Formed in 2001 in New York City, KHANATE features James Plotkin (B: OLD/SCORN/solo etc.), Alan Dubin (Vo: OLD), Stephen O'Malley (G: SUNN O)))/BURNING WITCH), and Tim Wyskida (Ds: BLID IDIOT GOD). After three excellent albums, "Khanate" (2001), "Things Viral" (2003), and "Capture & Release" (2005), the group disbanded in 2006, with the same tension between the members as in the sound style.In 2009, they released their last album "Clean Hands Go Foul". Since then, the four have been working on their own projects, with Stephen's SUNN O)))) making a worldwide impact with its heavy drone sound that can be seen as high-end art, and has long reigned at the top. The heavy drone with extremely reduced number of notes and the percussion and sound pressure of the one-strike ensemble in all parts remind one of iai filled with a sense of tension, and the desperate vocal leads to a helplessness that seems to express the last screams of mankind. The sound reaches the extreme of minimalism, demanding so much concentration that it robs the listener of his or her breathing timing. The album began with Stephen and Tim sharing a session they had in 2017 with all four members, and the making of the album was a top-secret affair known only to the members. It was almost ready in the summer of 2021 during the pandemic disaster, and everything, including the artwork, was completed by the end of 2022. In order to completely prevent information leaks, the project was shared by all parties involved under the codename "Manbyrd". As in the past, a sense of suffocating tension dominates the album, which is three long songs, 61 minutes long, and evokes the end of the new millennium.
