This work, which symbolizes the tragic fate of a genius who was nominated for the Akutagawa Prize four times and was hailed as a rising star both in Japan and abroad, yet passed away at the young age of 34, is now being adapted into a film for the first time. ■ The lead role is played by Romin Furuya, making his film debut in this film. Reimi Miyamori plays the role of his ex-girlfriend! The role of Hayao, a novelist who craves love while fearing it, is played by Romin Furuya, an actor who rose to fame in works such as *VIVANT*, *If You’re Going to Fall in Love, the Second Time Is Best*, and *Tokyo Tower*, and who has garnered attention both in Japan and abroad. Furthermore, Reimi Miyamori—who won the Best Actor Award at the 18th Tanabe-Benkei Film Festival for her directorial and leading role in *My Head Is Always Noisy*—has been cast as Izumi, Hayao’s ex-girlfriend. The film also features a stellar cast including Mami Yamazaki, Mutsuo Yoshioka, Miyoko Yoshimoto, and Chizuru Higashi. The film is directed by Kishu Idō, who—together with screenwriter Kaori Kotani—offered a modern interpretation of Jun’ichirō Tanizaki’s masterpieces *Manji* and *The Love of a Madman*, earning widespread empathy and admiration. He has transformed the original novels—written against the backdrop of postwar Japanese society—into sensual stories that resonate with people living in the Reiwa era.
