This is a collection of organ works by Franz Schmidt, who celebrated the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2024. The instrument used is the large organ, Op. 306, built by Eberhard Friedrich Walcker in 1878 and accepted by the church in the presence of Anton Bruckner. The recording includes two "Preludes and Fugues," which require a high level of playing technique, as well as Schmidt's first solo organ work, "Variations on a Theme of My Own Work and Fugue," and "Four Little Chorale Preludes," published in 1926. The performer, Elisabeth Ullmann, was born in Zwettl, Austria.She studied with Anton Heiler and Alois Foller, and was taught by Marie-Claire Alain, winner of the organ categories of the Bach International Music Competition in Leipzig in 1976 and the Bruckner International Organ Competition in Linz in 1978, respectively, and since 1979 Since 1979, he has been teaching in the organ department of the Mozarteum University of Salzburg.
