Description:
Closely tied to the rise of piano music in the Viennese Classical period was the expansion of the fortepiano's range, volume, tone, and other functions, with the instruments of Walther (Walter), Streicher, and Schantz being especially highly valued. The original fortepiano made by Johann Schanz around 1790 is used here to record works by Haydn and Kogelf, both of whom highly valued the instrument. The instrument was donated to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna in 1939 from a private collection, and was restored in 2009 and made available for performance. Richard Fuller is an American-born veteran performer and researcher who has been based in Vienna for more than 30 years. His performances, mature in both the style of the works and the function of the instruments, will take you back to the sounds of a bygone era.
