Songs and Dances of Baroque England by Lazarevich, a gifted flute and bagpipe player] François Lazarevich is a master of various flutes and bagpipes. If Baroque works for flute by Bach and Telemann are one axis of his repertoire, old works from his native France using musette, a small bagpipe, are another, and works from England and its neighboring countries are another important axis, in which his specialty bagpipes and flutes are perfectly suited to their sound. bagpipes and flutes, which are his specialty, fit perfectly with his sound. The melodies on this album are taken from the "English Dance Instructions," which was published in more than 20 volumes between 1651 and 1728 by the publishers of John Playford (1623-86) and was a huge hit. Lazarevich himself made the arrangement for performance with Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, which he organized, and the violin variations in "Songs of Italy" are by David Greenberg.
