The album will blow away your daily depression and give you energy for tomorrow. The GUMBO CATS, a New Orleans-style jazz band from Hokkaido, has released their first album. MIHOKO/pf, Shinya Yanagi/bass, and Juichi Ideta/drums, who are active in different fields such as modern, latin, funk, etc., seek their own New Orleans style with Hirokazu Abe on traditional jazz trumpet. The four musicians' personalities do not halve, but blend together like a rich gumbo soup. Old jazz greets listeners when they drop the needle. Then, the band traces the musical landscape of New Orleans, cooking up a wide range of material from standards to Presley and gospel, with a second line and swing. Every song has a pleasant groove. The closing original, "Take Us on the Journey," is truly a "take us back to New Orleans, the home of jazz. The song is simple and happy, with a little bit of blues.
