The improvising group formed by four people who are not only of different nationalities, but also of different music they usually play, released an album recorded in Manila this July! River People is an improvisation group formed by four musicians of different nationalities: Swiss drummer Christian Butcher, Filipino guitarist Johnny Alegre, Japanese bassist Tetsuro Hori, and American saxophonist Rick Countryman. Christian Butcher and Rick Countryman are a well-known duo who have performed together on numerous occasions and have released recordings together on labels such as Chapu Chapu Records, improvising beings, and FMR. The two are joined by Tetsuro Hori, an Osaka-based double bass player, improviser, and composer who creates experimental and lyrical soundscapes that incorporate ambient, electronic, and post-classical elements by layering digital and analog effects on the double bass.River People is an improvisation group formed with the addition of veteran guitarist Johnny Alegre, who is active not only in the Philippines but also internationally, creating a wide range of music from orthodox jazz to fusion and world music. The addition of Hori and Alegre has created a unique music that is both powerful and straightforward free jazz with a more expansive sense of space.
