Born in Cuba but American, this is his only solo recording made in the Netherlands after passing through the British folk scene of the late 60s. The backing band features two members of Focus, who had just debuted: guitarist Jan Akkerman and flute/piano player Thijs van Leer. While rooted in the lineage of British and American singer-songwriters like Tim Buckley and Nick Drake, his world—fusing West Coast mellowness and British sensibility with the stylistic beauty of Euro-rock—is utterly unique.
