Since signing with ECM, András Schiff has delivered a diverse range of releases, both solo and chamber music. Each one showcases a repertoire selected not only because the artist enjoys recording it but also because it delights fans to no end—making him one of the artists whose next release we eagerly anticipate the most. It’s still fresh in our memory how he received rave reviews for his 2004 release of a collection of cello sonatas with Pereni, and now, at long last, the first volume of his Beethoven Piano Sonata collection is set to be released. The first disc features the first four sonatas (Nos. 1–4). While the selection may strike some as a bit subdued, given the remarkable depth of his artistry since joining ECM, doesn’t it make you want to listen to it carefully and thoroughly? I am truly looking forward to the completion of Schiff’s new complete recordings. The superb sound quality unique to the ECM label is sure to set every music lover’s heart racing.
