The debut album from Chicago-based multi-artist Sparklmami. Sparklmami first introduced her music to the world through two impactful singles released in 2024: “fajas” and “running.” Having just re-released the digital hit “running” last month—featuring an energetic remix by renowned Los Angeles producer and beatmaker Mndsgn, as well as a live version recorded during a session with close bandmates in Chicago—she is finally set to release her debut album in June. This album takes listeners deep into Sparklmami’s vividly realized, dreamlike spiritual world, where a barrage of fantastical music rooted in her childhood is unleashed alongside waves of imaginative and improvisational self-expression. Sonically, it is a vast and free work that balances various influences—such as 1970s Brazilian jazz and the Mexican boleros that filled the home where she grew up—resulting in a pleasant finish perfect for early summer. Having been given the opportunity to embody every nuance that shapes her, she was not bound by self-conscious editing; much of it was recorded in a single take, as if speaking directly from her subconscious onto the record. The participating musicians include Eddie Burns (Executive Producer, Drums), William Corduroy (Executive Producer, Bass), Alec Trickett (Percussion), Josh Jessen (Keys, Synths), and Kenneth Leftridge Jr. (Saxophone). The album also features instrumental contributions and musical input from Nico Segal (The Social Experiment, Neil Young), Alex Santilli (Thee Sacred Souls), Raphael Olivier (Etienne Daho, Yael Naim, National Jazz Orchestra), Adlai Reinhart (Shawnee Dez), and Chris Misch (Metro Boomin, Gunna, Bobby McFerrin).
