AC/DC's first new album in six years, "Power Up," will be released! DC has continued to sit at the pinnacle of rock music, selling a total of 200 million copies of all of their albums. All of their 16 albums since their major label debut have sold over a million copies, including the historic 1980 album "Back in Black," which celebrated its 40th anniversary this summer and became the second best-selling album in the history of popular music with 50 million copies sold worldwide. It is the second biggest selling album in the history of popular music after Michael Jackson's "Thriller" in the world. Although they have had such an extraordinary career, they were facing various difficulties with their last album, "Rock or Bust. It began with drummer Phil Rudd's arrest for misconduct just before the album's release (replaced by former member Chris Slade), vocalist Brian Johnson being forced to leave the tour due to hearing problems during the world tour (replaced by Axl Rose, who volunteered to take his place), and then, at the end of the tour, bassist Cliff Williams was forced to leave the tour due to a hearing impairment. At the end of the tour, bassist Cliff Williams announced his retirement.The saddest shock of all was the passing in November 2017 of Malcolm Young, the band's founder and rhythm guitar prodigy who had led the band alongside his brother Angus Young (64 years old). Malcolm was a songwriter and riff-maker of rare caliber, and his passing left the band and its fans with a tremendous sense of loss. Power Up," the band's first new album in six years, is an unabashedly AC/DC album, with every song co-written by Angus and Malcolm. Angus took many of Malcolm's ideas and turned them into a complete work of art. The album was produced by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Bruce Springsteen, etc.) and mixed by Mike Fraser (Metallica, Aerosmith, Van Halen, etc.). On October 1, the official comeback of Brian, Phil, and Cliff was also announced. With Angus in the lead, all the members are determined to carry on Malcolm's rock spirit, which makes the album even more powerful.
