Description:

Horneck & Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Series No. 10! Tchaikovsky No. 4 & Leshnov's Double Concerto for over 40 years, and sound mirror, which has been recording not only for Refrence Recordings but also for Pentatone, BIS, and other renowned recording labels for over 40 years, has joined forces to produce the highly acclaimed "Pittsburgh Live! sound mirror, a company that has been in charge of recording for over 40 years, has teamed up to produce the highly popular "Pittsburgh Live! series. The 10th recording in the series is Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4. Expectations are high for the 10th installment in the series, as the orchestra gave an overwhelming performance of Symphony No. 6 "Pathetique" (FR.720SACD/KKC.5697). When he was composing Symphony No. 4, Tchaikovsky was in the midst of a turbulent period in his life as a composer, including the failure of "Swan Lake" and an unwanted marriage. This was supported by Meck's widow and friends who provided financial support, and the score of this work includes a dedication "To my best friends". The first movement opens with a grand fanfare. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is full of brass virtuosos, but Horneck sounds surprisingly restrained. The strings that follow are also carefully rendered, and the second movement's neat oboe and woodwind group's versatile descriptive power are superb. In the third movement, the strings' pizzicato, the oboe's folk-like melody, and the trumpet march all proceed with Horneck's typical vigor and rhythmic sense, and in the fourth movement, the piece rushes to its climax. Sound Mirror's high-quality recording skillfully captures the thick sound of the brass and the luster and flamboyance of the strings. The coupling, Jonathan Leshnoff's Double Concerto for Clarinet and Bassoon, commissioned by the Pittsburgh Symphony, is presented in a superb performance by the two virtuosos of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
