On June 28, 1914, Franz Ferdinand and his wife, heirs to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, were assassinated by Bosnian Serbs from Bosnia while touring Sarajevo. This incident triggered the outbreak of World War I and sparked the first global turmoil of the 20th century, a century of turmoil. One hundred years later, on June 28, 2014, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra held a memorial concert in the hall of the National Library in Sarajevo's City Hall, not far from the scene of the assassination.The DVD release by Sony Classical is a live video of the concert, which was broadcast live around the world via Oirovision, and consists of the National Anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina, works by Schubert, Berg, Brahms and other composers with close connections to Austria, as well as Ravel's La Valse, which the composer wrote "describes a ball at the Austrian court. The program concludes with Ravel's "La Valse," which the composer describes as "a scene from a ball at the Austrian court," and the "National Anthem of Europe," an arrangement of Beethoven's "Ninth" that celebrates European unity. Under the serious direction of Welser-Möst, the dense sound of the Vienna Philharmonic sings a song of remembrance of the tragedy of World War I and a longing for peace. Sony Music
