Description:

The latest reissue of two Hindemith works by Kegel in his later years, including "Matisse the Painter," and "Symphonic Transformations on a Theme by Weber," by Switner. Both excellent recordings at Luke Church! This is the 36th SACD Hybrid Edition project, featuring the original coupling of Hindemith's most famous works, "Matisse the Painter" and "Noble Fantasy" Suite, conducted by Kegel, and the 1967 recording of Switner & SACD by Switner & SACD. This is the latest reissue of three of Hindemith's masterpieces, including the original coupling album of Hindemith's most famous works, "The Painter Matisse" and "Noble Fantasy" Suite, conducted by Kegel, and "Symphonic Transformations on a Theme by Weber" by Switner & SKD from 1967. The two works conducted by Kegel were previously released on SACD in Japan about 20 years ago, but this is the first time Switner's recordings are available on SACD. The two previously released recordings have also been newly converted to DSD directly from the original analog master tapes (color photos of the tapes are included in the commentary), so the freshness of the recordings is very different. This latest reissue has further enhanced the interpretation intended by Kegel, and the content will sound more dense in terms of sound quality and music.Although Switner's 1967 recording is a year later than Kegel's, it offers the realistic sound quality of ETERNA recordings made in the heyday of analog recordings. The recordings were all made at Luke's Church, so even though the orchestra and production team are different, the sound has a sense of unity. Kegel systematically recorded Hindemith's works, first two works around 1970, and later intensively from 1980 to 1985, totaling about nine recordings. The performances are all in Kegel's style, with a cool and objective approach to the music, but the early recordings are lively and lively, while the works recorded after 1980 are more lucid, and Hindemith's musicality is more pronounced. Since the stereo era, Hindemith's recordings have rarely been intensively performed by a single conductor, and this series of Kegel recordings has been widely welcomed in the market, partly because it is a recording of the German mainstream. Kegel did not record "Symphonic Transformations on a Theme by Weber. This may be due to the fact that Switner, who is storing the third track here, recorded it in 1967, but it may also be due to the fact that ETERNA at that time gave priority to increasing the number of songs in its catalog, and thus avoided stereo recordings as much as possible (although there were many exceptions). The recording by Switner was also well known, and the bursting sound of the SKD is a pleasure to listen to. This first SACD release offers even higher resolution and a more vivid sound. (1/2)
