Mazur led a group of talented singers in 1972, shortly after he was appointed Kapellmeister of the LGO, and recorded this masterful performance at the Luke Church in Dresden! Excellent recording. This is the world's first SACD release. Mastered only in the analog domain and directly converted to DSD! This is the latest reissue of the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan, and the 32nd SACD hybrid version. The source was recorded on the former East German ETERNA label in February 1972, and the first Beethoven symphony cycle and overture collection (co-produced by Victor and Deutsche Schallplatten; released in the West in 1974) was released at the same time and partly in the same recording location. PHILIPS licensed release in the West) were recorded by the same duo. This "Missa Solemnis" was not included in that co-production (released in the West on Eulodisc), and the rights to this recording are still held by Charlaplatten of Germany. This time, in conjunction with the reissue of the live "Ninth" (0303159BC) from 1981, which was released at the same time, this recording has also been made into an SACD with the latest version. Mazur was appointed conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic in 1964, succeeding his predecessor, Bongartz, who became chief conductor in 1967, a position he held until 1972. Just before this recording, he had visited Japan in November 1971, and it was the time when Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 3 and 6 were broadcast on TV and recorded at Setagaya Kumin Kaikan by Victor at that time, and the records were released in July and November of the following year, respectively. The aforementioned symphonies and others were recorded at Luke Church in Dresden by the East German staff after their return to Japan, and this "Missa Solemnis" was also recorded during that period. The soloists are the same as in the session recording of the Ninth except for Theo Adam on bass. As in the style of the symphony, Mazur's aggressive approach to the music and lively sound can be enjoyed in this performance.The violin solo by Bosse is also sublime, and it is also important to note that the Gewandhaus Orchestra, which had remained in the former East Germany since the prewar period, has retained its robust yet affectionate tone, carefully recorded by the staff of the former East Germany. In this sense, it is significant that this recording has been made in the latest, high-quality sound quality. The recording by Streuben accurately captures the core of the sound, and the quality of the sound is excellent. In addition, since Berlin Classics does not have the rights to release the complete symphonies and other symphonic works that were jointly produced by the two companies, this is a recording of great rarity in that it is the only one that can be reissued using the true master of the series of sound sources.
