Celebrating the 50th anniversary of organ building by Belgian master craftsman Marc Nagels. Up-and-coming Belgian organist Jarno Missian and the highly accomplished Bart Narsens take turns performing on three legendary instruments! An album commemorating the 50th anniversary of the career of Marc Nagels (born 1952), a master organ builder based in Belgium. The recording features three organs—at St. Peter’s Church in Nieuwelkeren, St. Martin’s Church in Stefoort, and St. Quentin’s Church in Zonhofen—which Nagels himself restored in later years, refining their timbre according to his own aesthetic. The performances are by up-and-coming organist Jarno Missian, who has already released his debut album on this label, and Bart Narsens, artistic director of the early music ensemble “BachPlus.” The German-built organ relocated to Nieuwelkeren has been tuned to produce a balanced sound with subdued sharpness; the small Rüef organ in Steefort has been provided with sufficient wind pressure to yield a rich tone; and the three-manual organ in Zonhofen has been transformed into an instrument with harmonic balance that reinforces the fundamental tones in the bass register while maintaining its versatility. To bring out the unique character of each instrument to the fullest, a meticulously curated selection of works by Bach, Buxtehude, and composers associated with Belgium has been chosen. Tokyo M Plus
