A live recording of the Paris performance of Marais' masterpiece opera "Alcione" 250 years after its original performance by Savard, a leading expert on Marais' music, is now available in a definitive masterpiece! Savard's live recording of the great masterpiece opera "Alcione" by Marin Marais. Alcione" was first performed in 1706 and was the last tragedy lyric of the reign of Louis XIV. It is the ultimate spectacle, based on a myth, glorifying the glory of the monarch, and lavish in its dancing and staging. As Savard himself has done, there have been opportunities to perform and record instrumental (and orchestral) excerpts as a suite, but a recording as an opera is rare. This is a live recording of the first performance in Paris in 2017, 250 years after it was first performed in 1771, by Savard, who was instrumental in bringing the name and music of Marin Marais back to the world with the film "The Morning After. A masterful performance of this historic work has emerged that does not disappoint. Despite the fact that music at the time was giving way to dance and other forms of entertainment, "Alcione" was revived many times over the years at the Opéra in 1719, 1730, 1741, 1756, 1757, and 1771. The storm scene was especially popular, and Lully and Campra later quoted from it. This music can be said to have been the forerunner of the descriptive music that would later be used in Beethoven's "Rural".The fact that the chorus scene quotes folk songs widely known to the people of the time was another reason for the work's wide and enthusiastic reception. The orchestration is superb, beautifully and delicately portraying the delicate emotions of the characters.
