Gran Teatre de la Liceu de Barcelona 2015 Sondra Radvanovsky's "Norma" by Sondra Radvanovsky, a work that has become synonymous with bel canto opera, Bellini's masterpiece "Norma". Not only is the music beautiful and lyrical, but the work is a masterful expression of the fundamental themes of human society. This video shows a new production at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, in February 2015. This production is a co-production with San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Canadian Opera. New York-based filmmaker Kevin Newberry was hired to direct. Although simple, the production makes effective use of large-scale stage sets such as iron wooden horses, cow heads, and large trees. The high caliber of the singers also stands out. The American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, who sings Norma, has an overwhelming presence with her dynamic and large scale singing. In the role of Pollione, Gregory Kunde, one of the best bel canto singers of his day, sings powerfully in high tones. The world's favorite mezzo-soprano, Ekaterina Gubanova, sings Adalgisa, which is also a must-hear.The duet between Norma and Adalgisa is particularly beautiful and the highlight of the play. Conductor Renato Palumbo has served as music director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin (2006-2008).
