Description:

This compilation of Italian Crime film soundtracks (Poliziottesco / Spaghetti Crime) takes you on a musical journey of jazz, funk and progressive music that captures the social and political turmoil of 1970s Italy. Nine previously unreleased tracks, eight of which are being released on vinyl for the first time! PIOMBO paints a "sonic picture" of the "Lead Years" (1973-1981), a period of social and political turmoil in Italy that lasted from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. Drawing from the French detective film tradition and American blackploitation, the genre encompassed thrills and action (as well as comedy and drama) in a whirlwind of breathtaking car chases, robberies, kidnappings, shootouts, political terror attacks, and brutal violence. Polizieski's soundtrack was tense, aggressive, and hallucinatory. They incorporate a blacksploitation sound with a showstopper of a brass-driven theme on a bed of sound made up of propulsive bass lines, haunting drum beats, wah-wah guitars, Latin percussion highlights, and disco-inspired epic strings! The sound is a Madlib-inspired, black-spreading sound. The sound is diverse and contemporary, sampled by Madlib and used in Quentin Tarantino films, and at its core is American jazz-funk, an episode of acid progressive rock ("Il grande racket" De Angelis brothers, Guido and Maurizio, soundtrack to Enzo G. Castellari's classic "Big Violence"), Stelvio Cipriani's synth-driven disco music ("Body Guard," one of the compilation's nine previously unreleased treasures), and electronic music ("The Rise of the Soul"). Collector's edition of the 2LP with exclusive 7-inch vinyl and original poster.
