A new album by Pan·American, led by former Labradford member Mark Nelson. Overlaying memories of a child’s birth, parting from parents, and life’s comings and goings, the album portrays the anxiety, wonder, loneliness, and hope that “travel” brings, viewed from both a literal and metaphorical perspective. Inspired by Joe Stafford’s “You Belong to Me” and Chuck Berry’s “Promised Land,” it constructs a sonic world where personal narratives intersect with universal lyricism. Recorded at home over the past few years, this album features electric guitar, acoustic guitar with a rubber bridge, and electronics, with Mallory Linnehan (Chelsea Bridge) contributing violin and vocals. The cover art features a photograph of Mark’s mother that evokes a sense of departure, lending a quiet resonance to the entire work.
