Description:

Amid a growing trend toward reevaluating 20th-century pianists, this collection of recordings brings together the postwar works of Moiseyevich, one of the most significant figures in the field. It includes an interview featuring the voice of this pianist, who was known for his reserved nature! Following an era focused on surveying the broader trends of 20th-century pianists, there is now a growing momentum to explore individual pianists in depth. In this context, there is no doubt that Moiseyevich is an indispensable and pivotal figure. Although he is said to have been extremely taciturn and reserved, his career as a pianist was extremely busy, and he was particularly active on tour. However, very few live recordings of him survive, and those that do are all extremely rare. For this release as well, some of the source material consists of tapes from the 1950s that were entrusted to a musicologist by an ordinary piano enthusiast (believe it or not, a bus driver) and preserved over the years. Although Moiseyevich was born in Ukraine, he made significant contributions during the war, including performing for troops in the UK, and was reportedly on friendly terms with the Churchill family, enjoying immense popularity in Britain. The origin of the tapes further underscores this popularity. Thanks to his fame, Moiseyevich frequently appeared on radio and television interview programs, and Disc 3 compiles the surviving recordings from those appearances. While he was reserved and serious, he managed to navigate even the most playful questions with ease. The disc also includes a live recording of Chopin’s Ballade No. 3, making it a precious audio legacy that conveys the very essence of this great pianist to this day.
