The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, led by Gergéi Madarasz, gives a colorful performance of Liszt's striking orchestral depiction of the story of Faust! The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, led by Gergéj Madaraş, has recorded Liszt's Faust Symphony and Mephisto Waltz No. 1. Madarasz, born in Budapest, graduated from the flute department of the Liszt Academy and the conducting department of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He has served as Principal Conductor of the Savaria Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Orchestre de Dijon-Bourgogne, and has been appointed Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège beginning with the 2019/2020 season, a contract that runs through 2025. The Faust Symphony is a three-movement masterpiece dedicated to Berlioz that portrays the personalities of the three characters in Goethe's Faust. Although he later added a chorus section, this performance includes the orchestral pieces "Faust," "Grächen," and "Mephistopheles" as they were originally composed. The coupling is Mephisto Waltz No. 1. This work is widely known as an arrangement for solo piano, but you can enjoy the colorful tone that is typical of Liszt's orchestral music. King International
