Finnish conductor Susanna Markki made a splash in September 2017 with her first official appearance with the Berliner Philharmoniker. On this disc, she performs with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in orchestral suite versions of two of Bartók's ballets. Markki studied cello at the Sibelius Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music in London, won the Finnish Cello Competition, and was principal cellist of the Göteborg Orchestra from 1995 to 1998. He studied conducting under Leif Segerstam and Eli Klass at the Sibelius Academy of Music from 1995, where his talent blossomed. Since then, he has been active as a conductor in many countries around the world, and is one of the leading contemporary Finnish performers.
