Norwegian vocal ensemble Trio Medievall, which has produced hits for ECM, celebrates the Nordic Christmas season with a "modern" album! The Norwegian vocal ensemble Trio Medieval has released two albums since they began recording for the 2L label, "Consolation" (2L 165SABD) and "Old Hall Manuscript" (2L 175SABD). The change from the beautiful sound quality of the former recordings, which gave the impression that a human hand had been added, to the nature of the sound by Motten Lindberg, which allows the listener to experience the musical space together, has enabled a new world of charm and depth of the Trio Medievale, which has been praised as "a soul-stopping journey into the music of timeless beauty," to be enjoyed in a realistic way. Now you can enjoy it. The new "YULE" was created as a "contemporary" album celebrating the Nordic celebration of Christmas. Christmas as a "quiet church prayer" and as a "wishing for light" event in the pre-Christian pagan era. The session at the Sofienberg Church included trad and jazz musicians.Sinikka Langeland's Cantele, who has also recorded for the ECM label; Vegal Voldahl's Hallingfele and fiddle; Arve Henriksen's trumpet and organ; Anders Jormin's double bass; and Helge Andreas Norbakke's percussion. These players are active on the Nordic music scene. The meeting of a cappella voices and improvisation by instrumental musicians presents traditional carols as new songs born of the fusion of the sacred and the secular. Lynn Andrea Fuglsett's arrangement of Praetorius' monophonic chant "From the Roots of Essai (A Rose Bloomed). The Swedish hymn "The Way of the Lord," arranged by Anna Maria Freeman; the English carol "Sleep, O Sleep" and the Swedish "Here, O Savior of the World," arranged by Trio Medieval with 2018 member Jörn Lovise Husan; and the Swedish "Here, O Savior of the World," arranged by Lynn Andrea Fuglsett. Andru Smith's "Light" was composed for Trio Medieval.Two pieces, a 15th century Norwegian folk song "In This Tender Christmas Season" and Carl Christian Balle's Danish hymn "Now the bells ring to herald the celebration of Christmas" are performed as instrumental improvisations only.
