Description:
A song of madness and mourning centered on Ophelia, the heroine of Shakespeare’s tragedy! The profound world of Romantic art songs, presented by the Dutch high-fidelity label “TRPTK”! From the Dutch high-fidelity label "TRPTK," renowned for its ultimate high-resolution recordings (11.2 MHz 1-bit/DSD256), comes a collection of Romantic art songs centered on Ophelia, the tragic heroine from Shakespeare’s *Hamlet*. The stories of young women who suffered from love, were crushed by grief, and fell into madness before losing their lives are woven together through the crystal-clear voice of a soprano. At the core of the album are Richard Strauss’s *Three Songs of Ophelia* and Brahms’s *Five Ophelia Songs*. These are combined with Schumann’s *Six Songs* and Fanny Hensel (Fanny Mendelssohn)’s *The Premature Grave*, deeply exploring themes of despair, hopelessness, and meditation on death. The album is further enriched by Brahms’s piano solo piece *Three Intermezzi*, in which he sublimates his own sorrow, and R. Strauss’s early cycle *The Maiden’s Flower*, which likens young girls to flowers. Soprano Elvire Beekhuisen is a rising star from the Netherlands who performs as a member of the ensemble at the Magdeburg Theater. “I found deep joy in Ophelia’s madness and in Richard Strauss’s work, which perfectly set it to music,” she says. Furthermore, her experience of losing her father during the album’s production, combined with her memories of a younger sister who was stillborn, infuses the overarching theme of “mourning” with deeply personal and profound emotion. The piano accompaniment is provided by Daan Burtien, a specialist in lieder accompaniment who has earned the deep trust of renowned singers such as Benjamin Apple. Tokyo M Plus
