Saxophonist/composer Melissa Aldana, who won the 2013 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and made her major label debut the following year, has since been rising through the New York jazz scene at breakneck speed, earning a Grammy nomination. Melissa Aldana's second album for Blue Note follows her 2022 album "12 Stars," which was her Blue Note debut. Co-produced by Melissa and guitarist Lage Lund, who she places great trust in, the album features eight songs written by Melissa herself, including a tribute to Wayne Shorter. Recorded with Fabian Almazan on piano, Pablo Menares on bass, and Kush Abadi on drums. Recorded with the members who have toured together on numerous tours, the album beautifully captures the sense of unity as a band. The soft yet sharp arrangements and sound are also very impressive, and this is a remarkable work with a strong personality.
