Description:

A collection of works by contemporary Italian composer Fabio Vacchi, from Dowland to avant-garde, including guitar. The main work is a chamber version of a guitar concerto, two short solo pieces, a duo work with avant-garde flute, and an ensemble accompaniment to a Dowland song. The quartet is led by the well-known guitarist Medielka and includes the up-and-coming young Manfredi Quartet, flutist Ruggieri, who is mainly active in the field of contemporary music, and soprano Livia Lado, also a contemporary musician. About the workNotturno Concertante Quintet for Guitar and String QuartetCommissioned by Swedish guitarist Magnus Andersson and first performed in 1997, this chamber music version of the guitar concerto was arranged for guitar and string quartet in 2012. The colorful orchestral parts of the original are transformed into the diverse sound of the string quartet, which also makes full use of modern calligraphy. Vacki has already composed five string quartets, and his experience must have been put to good use.Pudding" for Guitar Solo The combination of harmonics and the unique and beautiful sound of the guitar brings out a pure and unique sound from the guitar. The "Apocrypho" original for guitar solo is an ensemble piece written for bass flute, bass clarinet, contrabassoon, guitar, and contrabass. In this guitar solo version, the absence of the winds and other varied tones makes the framework of the music stand out, giving it a monologue-like flavor. Suite for Flute and Amplified Guitar, 1971. The young Vacchi is in high spirits in this avant-garde style that evokes a sense of the times. In addition to flute and guitar, there are pen and paper sounds and shouts in this interesting piece. Flow My Dowland" for contralto and ensemble is an arranged version of the famous song by Dowland [1563-1626]. The voices remain the same, but the accompaniment is replaced by guitar, violin, viola, cello, vibraphone, harp, flute, bass clarinet, and bassoon. About the composerFabio Vacchi was born in Bologna in 1949.He studied at the local G.B. Martini Conservatory with Giacomo Manzoni and Tito Gotti, won the Koussevitzky Composition Prize at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood in 1974, and in 1976 won the Gaude Arms Composition Competition in the Netherlands. That same year, he composed a four-movement Sinfonia for the Venice Biennale, which was premiered at the Teatro La Fenice under the direction of Sinopoli. Since then, in addition to the Venice Biennale, he has performed his works at La Scala in Milan, the Opéra Comique in Paris, the Opéra de Lyon, the Florence May Festival, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
