Description:

Born 22 years before Bach, Murschhauser was a German Baroque composer who served as Kapellmeister of the huge Frauenkirche in the Catholic city of Munich for almost half a century. The "Prototipon Longo Breve Organikum" is a collection of organ pieces, meaning prototypes of various long and short instrumental pieces, which serve as preludes and postludes to the vocal pieces played in the service. The population of Munich at the time of Murschhauser's arrival in Munich was 20,000, but the Frauenkirche had a capacity of approximately 20,000, and as a landmark of approximately 100 meters in height, it is thought to have attracted a great deal of attention. The organ used for the CD recording is the organ of the Frauenkirche Baumgartenberg in Austria, located about 230 km east of Munich, and is the only organ in the world that has been used in a concert hall. The organ used on the CD is a 1662 Freund Richter instrument from the Baumgartenberg church in Austria, about 230 km east of Munich, and is played by Italian organist Silva Manfre.[About the work] Franz Xaver Anton Murschhauser [1663-1738] joined the choir and orchestra of St. Peter's Cathedral in 1676 while studying at the Jesuit Gymnasium in Munich, first with the church choral director Siegmund Auer and then from 1684 to In July 1690, Ludwig Hertz, choirmaster of the Frauenkirche in Munich, became ill and on the recommendation of his teacher Körl, Murschhauser took over for him, and when Hertz died the following year in 1691, When Hertz died in 1691, Mulschhauser became his successor and served for almost half a century until his death in 1738. Born in Verona, she studied piano, organ, and composition at the local conservatory, and then at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Michael Radulescu. He also studied musicology at the University of Pavia and the University of Vienna, where he received his degree with a thesis on the organ music of Arnold Schoenberg, Olivier Messiaen, and Paul Hindemith. He has attended master classes with Gaston Litaize, Guy Bovet, Bernard Brochli, Esteban Elizondo, Harald Vogel, Lorenzo Ghielmi, and Paolo Crivellaro, where he studied in particular historical performance techniques. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in Italy, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Spain, Andorra, Slovenia, etc. His CDs include the 2022 Brilliant Classics release of the Milan Cathedral organis and composer Ottervio Bariolla [ 1573-1619], and there is a collection of Ricercar.
