In 2024, the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth, Knappertsbusch's late Symphony No. 8, which reigns supreme as a masterpiece, is finally being released on SA-CD! After a long period of time when the sound quality was said to have been conventionally difficult, Victor at that time discovered a new analog master tape in its home country and released the CD with remarkable improvements in 1997. In the 50th anniversary of Knappertsbusch's death, this CD reissue of the original master tape was released in 2015 with the latest mastering, using the master tape from Victor's 1997 digitalization. The CD reissue (now available on PROC-1639) was well received.This latest reissue uses the original analog master tapes from the country of origin, which were digitized in high-resolution at Emil Berliner Studios (EBS) and then converted to SA-CD from the original masters. This allows you to listen to this exceptional masterpiece with a data volume and sound quality that exceeds that of the CD. As with the previous Tower CD, two tracks from the 1961 "Fidelio" complete recording are included in the margins as a special coupling. This was also very popular last time, so you can enjoy it as well. There have been various opinions about the content of the recording, which was based on Knappertsbusch's revised edition at the time, but today, many editions and even new reconstructions by later researchers and others have appeared, and listeners can enjoy a wide variety of the actual sound. As detailed in Mr. Mitsuoka's description in the new preface commentary, it can be said that the choice has become an era in which Bruckner can be enjoyed more fully, and the sense of resistance to it has been removed.The performance is the ultimate answer to Bruckner's last completed symphony, which is built up in a great swell.
