Description:

Jazz pianist Amaro Freitas, whose international career transcends the boundaries of Brazil, announces his long-awaited new album "Y'Y"! This is a further update of fresh and "decolonized" Brazilian jazz, with such splendid guests as Shabaka Hutchings, Brandy Younger, and Jeff Parker." Amaro Freitas is a jazz pianist from Recife, northeastern Brazil, who has received worldwide acclaim for his "astonishingly unique approach to the keyboard" (Downbeat). This album, "Y'Y," was inspired by his experience in Manaus, a city in the Amazon basin where he spent 2020, and features many pieces inspired by nature and indigenous people. Compared to his previous works, which were based on a piano trio formation, "Y'Y" has taken on a deeper coloration as Amaro's solo project, presenting a deeper, more spiritual world that makes full use of internal piano techniques, thumb piano, percussion, and more. This work is reminiscent of the works of Nana Vasconcelos, a fellow countryman, and his ally Egberto Gismonti. At the same time, it serves as a link between the jazz community in the global Afro-diaspora, and the participation of Shabaka Hutchings, Brandy Younger, Jeff Parker, Aniel Someiran, and Hamid Drake is a major topic.Amaro has expanded his musicality in each of his works, such as "Rasif" ('18), which is about his hometown of Recife, and his previous work "Sankofa" ('21), which shifted his perspective to the African continent, but "Y'Y", which is about the Amazon and its indigenous people, also has a consistent theme of "salvaging what was before colonization The theme of "salvation" is a consistent one. Exploring his Brazilian roots while adding new like-minded guests and merging with the current trend of contemporary jazz to transcend history, this work will undoubtedly be a breakthrough in Amaro's career. After the release of their 2nd album "JACK POT", which expressed their unique world view with genre-less sound, they released their 8th single "BREMEN", their first single! The title track, "BREMEN", is based on the strong determination of "these four are going to take everyone to the best scenery", pursuing a "groovy" track that will shake the audience from the bottom of their bodies, and the lyrics expressing the uncompromising desire to take their music to new heights, the song is a turning point for the new OWV The song is a turning point for the new OWV, which resonates with all five senses. The limited first edition includes the music video for "BREMEN" and a making-of featurette.
