Description:

A Fate live performance dedicated to an old friend with all his might! The third installment of the Seiji Ozawa & Mito Chamber Orchestra Beethoven Series is Symphony No. 5 "Destiny", recorded live in Mito in March 2016. This is the first time that the Mito Chamber Orchestra has performed Fate, and also the first time that Fate has been performed on their home turf, Art Tower Mito. It was former Vienna Philharmonic player Roland Altmann, who had played timpani until the previous performance, who suggested Seiji Ozawa to play Fate, and Seiji Ozawa was looking forward to playing Fate on his timpani. Unfortunately, however, Altmann passed away this past February 2016 due to illness. On the day of the concert, the second movement of Mozart's Divertimento K.136 was dedicated in memory of Altmann's death. In the second half of the concert, Seiji Ozawa and the orchestra members performed "Fate" together in a dynamic, powerful, and moving performance that brought the packed audience to their feet. At Suntory Hall, which was held after the Mito concert, the Emperor and Empress of Japan were in attendance, and once again received a thriving standing ovation for their overwhelming performance. The album couples "Fate," performed in the second half of the Mito concert, with Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, performed without a conductor in the first half. In the concerto, Ricardo Morales, a member of the Mito Chamber Orchestra who also participates in the Saito Kinen Orchestra and is principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra, is the soloist. Ozawa Fair will be held - present campaign for those who purchase 3 copies of 3 consecutive releases in June-August with an application sticker attached (You can apply by collecting 3 application stickers. Present prize: autograph paper autographed by Seiji Ozawa (10 winners) *Entry deadline: postmarked by September 20, 2016). [Performed by] Ricardo Morales (clarinet solo) (1), Mito Chamber Orchestra, Conductor: Seiji Ozawa (2) Recorded live at Art Tower Mito in March, 2016
