Offenbach (1819-1880)

Description:

Offenbach, "Life in Paris," Parazetto Bru Zane version, a must-see film! Garduffeau is a dandy who spends his time in the Parisian social scene. He has his eye on a Danish baron and his wife who have just arrived at a train station in Paris. He and his ill-fated friend Bobinet arrange to have an affair with the baron, and the baroness attempts to seduce him herself... Offenbach's operetta masterpiece "Life in Paris," along with "Orphee in Hell," "Hélène the Beauty," and "Bluebeard," is a masterpiece of the operetta genre. The time is Paris at the height of Napoleon III's reign, just before the World's Fair of 1867. This caricature of the city's lifestyle and the wealthy foreign tourists who visited the city was a record-breaking hit. This recording of a restored performance of the work in its original form is presented by the Palazzetto Bru Zane (French Romantic Music Center), founded in 2009 with the mission of rediscovering and internationally promoting France's musical heritage, especially from the 19th century. The production features a superb cast of singers, including Jodie Devos, Frank Luggerinel, and Marc Moyon, who are indispensable to Offenbach's operettas, brilliant stage design and direction by Christian Lacroix, and the up-and-coming conductor Romain Dumas, whose baton leads us through a melancholy, yet sometimes melodramatic, musical performance. The music is melancholy at times... A must-see Offenbach operetta film is now available. Naxos Japan
