Description:
French composer Jacques Rouché is known for his jazz-like performances of J.S. Bach's works. His innovative performances and creations have had a great impact on many people, and he has created many successors. This album contains two "rare" original "violin concertos" by Rouché. Both are eloquent and expressive, with surprisingly powerful percussion playing a major role. The first concerto, titled for each movement, weaves a strong, sometimes melancholy melody. Some melodies are jazz-like, others tango. The final movement, "Tokyo," has a slightly exotic feel, but is basically rhythmic and belligerent. It depicts a powerful city. The second piece, commissioned by the 2006 Menuhin Festival, is a fusion of Indian music and improvisation.A cadenza is inserted in the middle of the piece that stuns all who hear it, leading to a bustling finale. Paderewski's sonata is placed "abruptly" at the end of the album. This is an early work by Paderewski, a composer who was active as a pianist but also entered the world of politics, and is a "rare" sonata for violin by Paderewski, who wrote most of his works for piano. Kostecki, a Polish-born violinist, gives a lively performance. Naxos Japan
