Conductor Bryon has recorded a vast body of works by Philip Sousa (1854-1932), the "King of Marches," and this 15th album features the Royal Netherlands Naval Band, including some world premiere recordings. The Sousa Band, which gained remarkable popularity in the United States around the end of the 20th century, constantly expanded its repertoire, giving 3,500 concerts in seven years, and its instrumentation became more diverse, including the addition of harp. The band's instrumentation also became more diverse, including the addition of the harp.The marches and operettas, sometimes reflecting social conditions and sometimes incorporating episodes from the past, are truly unique and sophisticated, and you may be surprised that they would even use such a thing as a subject. The arrangement of the brass band version of "Chopin's Nocturne" on track 7 has brass instruments behind the stage to create a dreamlike sound, and track 3, "Band Come Back," the longest of the recordings (over 13 minutes), is subtitled "Fantastic Episode," with several familiar melodies heard in the middle.
