This is the latest album from the young American composer Kuman (b. 1982), who, as always, has an overwhelming number of works to his name. This intriguing album centers on a suite inspired by Nantucket Island, a place of stunning natural beauty located 30 miles south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. It took Kuman seven years to complete this work, in which he captured the ever-changing beauty of the landscape, the wind, and even the color of the sea. Although no direct connection is suggested for the “Lyrical Trio” or “Flying Machine,” it is easy to imagine—based on the musical color and other elements—that these pieces are also linked to “Nantucket.” Naxos Japan
