Description:
Two of the leading quartets on the contemporary chamber music scene present two masterpieces of string octet music in a polished ensemble. Both are fresh works composed in their teens by Mendelssohn and Enescu, who were both hailed as precocious geniuses. The Ebène String Quartet takes the first section for Mendelssohn, and the Belcher String Quartet for Enescu. These two great quartets will perform the Enescu and Mendelssohn string octets in Japan in 2025. Their individuality and skill were fully demonstrated, and the audience was captivated by their vital and masterful performance. The Ebène String Quartet has been active in classical music as well as jazz, and is highly acclaimed for its unique activities and solid performance techniques. One of the founding members, cellist Raphael Merlin, left the quartet in 2024, and Japanese cellist Yuya Okamoto joined the quartet, creating quite a stir. The Belcha String Quartet consists of a multinational group led by Corina Belcha. The quartet's diverse backgrounds come together to create a unique musical style. The quartet's repertoire is diverse and includes new works by Haydn, Mozart, Bartók, and other composers currently active in the field. (C)RS
