Alexandre Tharaud has selected about 50 famous film music songs from over 60 years of film history and performed them with a special focus on film music. Alexandre Tharaud's relationship with film music is deep and wide-ranging. This 2-CD album "CINEMA" features about 50 well-known film scores from over 60 years of film history by composers from France, Italy, the United States, Japan, Poland, Romania, and Lebanon. Among them are Michel Legrand, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Francis Ray, Marvin Hamlisch, Nino Rota, and Philip Glass. The album features pieces for piano and orchestra, as well as pieces for solo piano, most of which are original versions, "creating a world of sound as thrilling as the film itself," according to Tharault. It is further enhanced by the participation of Taro's star-studded partners. Antonio Pappano (conductor) with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, singers Vanessa Paradis, Camelia Giordana, and Sadouvielle, Michel Portal on clarinet, and violinist Nemanja Radulovic. 'As a child, I was lazy and quickly finished my piano studies, and from the age of five, I enjoyed improvising to familiar music, such as film music from the TV at my grandparents' house. When I was young, I played live accompaniment for many silent films. In silent films, you have to play all the time without the audience noticing, so I learned how to think of music that wouldn't get in the way. I also had to exaggerate certain sequences to make the characters more or less likable, to make the audience laugh or cry. These experiences have given me a better understanding of what film music is all about.I also had the opportunity to meet Michel Legrand, who sent me some scores, including the Yentl Medley, which I premiered in Japan in 2012," she said of the album.
