Gigashvili plays all three of Prokofiev's "War Sonatas," with Batiashvili's participation in the smaller pieces! Giorgi Gigashvili was born in Georgia in 2000 and this is his second solo album (there is also a Mozart concerto). The album includes all three piano sonatas, the so-called "War Sonatas," which Prokofiev wrote during World War II and is highly acclaimed for its high level of perfection. Gigashvili's seamless technique, the clarity of his current teacher Kirill Gerstein, the poetic sentiment inherited from his former teacher Nelson Gellner, and the keen sensitivity of a lover of the folk music of his homeland and vocalist for the electro unit Tsduneba, are all alive and well. He also gives a masterful performance filled with his thoughts on his teacher at the Conservatory in Tbilisi, Levaz Tavazze, and the current political situation in his country. Also in the margins is violinist Lisa Batiashvili, who is also from Georgia and performed with him in the Franck sonata released by DG.In addition to their sharp performances of well-known pieces from Romeo and Juliet, the orchestra also includes a new work by Georgian composer Baldanashvili, who lives in Israel, and composed for them as a tribute to the great Kancheli of his homeland.
