The Bavarian State Opera presents "War and Peace," directed by Cherniakov and conducted by Jurowski. Tolstoy's novel "War and Peace" is a grand-scale depiction of war and social relations against the backdrop of Napoleon's invasion and Russia's "Fatherland War" at the beginning of the 19th century. Prokofiev wrote and composed the script as a grand historical picture scroll, centering on the tragic love story of Andrei Bolkonsky and Natasha and their friendship with their friend Pierre, and concluding with the corrupt aristocratic society, the battle against Napoleon's army, the burning of Moscow, and the Russian victory. Marthe Krasting, who was in charge of dramaturgy for the work, which will be premiered at the Bavarian State Opera in 2023, the 70th anniversary of the composer's death, said, "The "War and Peace" directed by Cherniakov will take place in the "Colonnade" of the Trade Union Hall in Moscow. Trapped in this building against their will, the people begin to take on different roles and act out various scenes, as if they were sharing a collective memory in this strange communal life that may never end.The boundary between performance and reality gradually blurs, and the pretense of a battle turns into a bloody clash. ...... (excerpt from the notes)" and positions the production as a modern reinterpretation of Tolstoy's "War and Peace," which Prokofiev interpreted and created during the Russo-German War. Prokofiev interpreted and created "War and Peace" during the war between Germany and the Soviet Union. The project features outstanding singers from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and more than a dozen other countries. Led by the lucid baton of music director Yurovsky, Prokofiev's music is a perfect example of the beautiful lyricism, longing, and vitality of "Peace" and the wild, frenzied, and devastating "War. The production of "War and Peace" has received the following awards German Opern Welt Magazine 2023 Production of the Year: "War and Peace" at the Bayerische Staatsoper Director of the Year: Cherniakov, "War and Peace International Opera Awards 2023" (sponsored by British Opera Magazine) Best New Production Bayerisches Staatsoper, War and Peace Naxos Japan
