Born in Maryland in 1954, John Stump, commonly known as "Jack," taught at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for 25 years and was awarded the title of "University Professor" in 2008-09. He also has an interest in British brass band music and served as International Composer-in-Association for the Grimethorpe Colliery Band in 2019-23, helping to develop the band. His compositions range from joyful, flamboyant pieces with jazz elements to contemplative pieces that incorporate traditional hymns, all of which have been widely performed around the world. The album includes works related to English folk music and history, such as "From Concrete to Cobblestone," a series of pieces inspired by various places in England, "Remembering Clymond," composed in memory of Queen Elizabeth upon her death, and "Scarborough Fair. The Lake Wobegon Brass Band (LWBB), which will perform, was formed in Minnesota in 1992 with Charles Olson as conductor.Over the past 30 years, the orchestra has given more than 275 concerts and performed at national and international music festivals and educator conventions; since 2002, Michael Halstenson has served as music director and has made multiple tours to the U.K. The 2023-24 season is Halstenson's last season with the orchestra, A new album is in production.
