Donizetti: Opera "Dalinda In 1833, Donizetti composed the opera "Lucrezia Borgia" based on Hugo's play "Lucrece Borgia" and premiered it in Milan. In order to perform this work in Naples, Donizetti made major alterations and retitled it "Dalinda," but it failed to pass the censors, and this version remained unperformed and was forgotten. Recently, the score was discovered by musicologist Eleonora di Scintilla, who, with the help of her meticulous research and Donizetti scholar Roger Parker, restored the work and published a comparative revision by Ricordi. The resulting performance on May 14, 2023 (semi-staged) was well received for its successful depiction of the religious and social friction between Muslims and Christians that Donizetti intended. Lydia Friedman sings the title role of Dalinda, a distraught mother torn between her love for her son and her own loyalties, and Luciano Ganci sings exquisitely as her son Ildemaro. Paolo Bordogna, singing the antagonist Acmet, sings of the ruler's pride in a velvety voice.Founded in 2010 by Felix Krieger, the Berlin Opera Group is known for presenting a rare opera once a year.
